A 29-year-old agent from Uttar Pradesh, Abhinesh Saxena, was arrested for facilitating fake Schengen visas to two cousins who were attempting to travel to Sweden via Rome. The incident unfolded at IGI Airport when the two passengers, Taranveer Singh and Gagandeep Singh, were intercepted during immigration clearance for their flight to Rome via Doha on the night of April 20-21.
Upon inspection, officials found that the Schengen visas affixed in their passports were counterfeit. During questioning, the cousins revealed they intended to migrate to Sweden, influenced by relatives settled there. They had been in touch with an agent named Lalli, who offered to arrange travel and visas for Rs 31 lakh.
Following Lalli’s instructions, the duo traveled to Delhi, where one of Lalli’s associates delivered the passports containing the forged visas at a hotel in Mahipalpur. After multiple raids, Saxena was arrested as the associate involved in the illegal transaction.
Usha Rangnani, the Additional Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport), confirmed that Saxena confessed to working with Lalli since 2022, luring people with promises of overseas job opportunities. The arrested agent admitted to delivering fake documents and collecting money in return for the fraudulent travel arrangements.
This arrest highlights the ongoing issues surrounding fake visa scams, with agents exploiting individuals seeking better opportunities abroad.
