John Weigel Pleads Not Guilty in New Scotland Contracting Scam

Charges Include Grand Larceny and Scheme to Defraud

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A New Scotland man, John Weigel, 53, has pleaded not guilty to charges related to a contracting scam, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office. He faces three counts of grand larceny and one count of scheme to defraud.

The indictment alleges that between September 2021 and February 2023, as well as in November 2020, Weigel stole property valued at over $3,000 from two victims in Guilderland. Additionally, he is accused of taking property worth more than $3,000 from a victim in Colonie between February 2021 and July 2022.

Weigel is also alleged to have participated in an ongoing scheme to defraud clients by accepting upfront payments for projects but failing to complete the work. Furthermore, he reportedly did not compensate subcontractors who assisted him.

After his arraignment, Weigel was released under probation supervision. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 29.
