HOUSTON, Miss. — As election season heats up across Mississippi, one mayoral candidate is facing legal trouble that could shake up the race.
Hubert Hamilton, who is challenging incumbent Stacey Parker for the mayor’s seat in Houston, was arrested on Friday by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The arrest occurred on Airport Road, where Hamilton was pulled over and subsequently charged with driving under the influence (DUI).
In addition to the DUI charge, Hamilton also faces:
Failure to comply with law enforcement
Resisting arrest
No proof of insurance
Authorities have not released further details about the arrest or Hamilton’s current legal status. His campaign has yet to issue a statement.
The incident could pose a significant hurdle for Hamilton’s bid for office, as voters weigh character and conduct ahead of the upcoming local election.
