Two men were arrested during a police raid on an illegal firecracker factory in the Piran Kaliyar area of Haridwar district on Wednesday. The accused, Noman Suleman (27) from Mukhyalipur village and Suhail Masawwar (20) from Piran Kaliyar, were apprehended as authorities discovered a significant cache of dangerous materials.

Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobal reported that the operation yielded 93 kg of explosive materials, 70 boxes containing 33,600 packets of finished firecrackers, and other related items. The bomb disposal squad was called in to collect samples for further analysis.

During the investigation, it emerged that the factory had been operating under a license that had expired, registered in the name of one of the accused’s father.

This incident is not the first of its kind in Piran Kaliyar. The area has seen previous crackdowns on illegal firecracker manufacturing, including a tragic incident in 2021 when two individuals died in an explosion at a nearby factory. In 2022, authorities also uncovered another illegal facility in the region.
