Michael Kennedy Charged in Texas Roofing Fraud Scheme

Dickinson man accused of intentionally damaging roof to file false insurance claims

by Sophia Bennett

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — Michael Kennedy, a 41-year-old resident of Dickinson, is facing felony charges in Galveston County following an investigation into roofing fraud, officials announced.

Kennedy, an employee of Coast Guard Roofing, is charged with felony criminal mischief. Authorities allege that he intentionally damaged a victim’s roof to falsely claim it was storm-damaged, enabling him to file a fraudulent insurance claim.

Investigators revealed that manual mechanical manipulation of the roof occurred, indicating that the damage was deliberately inflicted to simulate harm from natural events, such as storms. This tactic was allegedly designed to deceive the insurance company into approving the fraudulent claim.

The investigation highlights the serious consequences of insurance fraud, as authorities remain vigilant in identifying and prosecuting those who attempt to exploit the system for financial gain.
