In a significant action against animal cruelty, the alert staff at Keri Checkpost, Bicholim, intercepted a pickup vehicle involved in the suspicious transportation of pigs. SDPO Jivba Dalvi confirmed that the vehicles were found carrying a total of 53 pigs under unhygienic and inhumane conditions.
The individuals arrested in connection with the incident were identified as Mr. Jeevan, son of Balappa Shipri, a resident of 13, Ashraya Colony, Rukmini Nagar, Belgaum, Karnataka, and Mr. Sagar M. Jadhav, from Dhanu Nagar, Dharwad, Karnataka. They were transporting 23 pigs in a Bolero Pickup (registration number KA 22 AA 6148) and 30 pigs in a TATA Rickshaw (registration number KA 25 AC 1319). The pigs were confined in the vehicles without proper documentation or the necessary approval from competent authorities, resulting in cruelty.
An FIR was filed under Section 325 of BNS, along with Sections 11(1)(a), 11(1)(e), 11(1)(d), 11(1)(h), and 11(1)(k) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and Sections 96, 97, and 98 of the Transport of Animal Rules, 2001. The vehicles were seized under panchanama, and an investigation has been initiated.
The Keri Checkpost staff, including Constables Gauresh Naik, Prashant Sutar, and Rajat Rane, played a crucial role in the interception. Further investigation is ongoing under ASI Laxman K. Parab of Valpoi Police Station, supervised by SDPO Jivba Dalvi, PI Videsh P. Shirodkar, and under the overall supervision of Rahul Gupta IPS, Superintendent of Police (North) Porvorim.
