LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — A 39-year-old man was arrested after fleeing from officers during a drug investigation in Lincoln on Monday, with police ultimately using a taser to apprehend him.
According to court documents, Lincoln Police were following up on a Crime Stoppers tip regarding Eddrick Jones, who was allegedly selling cocaine and MDMA in the area. Jones had recently been released from federal prison on January 31 after serving time for the distribution of a controlled substance.
Officers met with Jones at a house near Pablo and Palmilla lanes, where he permitted them into his bedroom to confirm he was not involved in drug activity. However, inside the bedroom, police found a green backpack containing drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a scale.
Upon discovering the items, Jones fled the house with the backpack, prompting a foot chase through a residential neighborhood. As Jones ran, he discarded multiple items from the bag. Officers chased him until he dove into a one-foot pile of snow, at which point he resisted arrest despite orders to comply. Officers deployed a taser, successfully bringing him into custody.
A subsequent search of the area uncovered a significant amount of drugs, including 380.9 grams of MDMA, 107.6 grams of suspected cocaine, and $13,000 in cash. Investigators also found an electric money counter.
Additionally, three juveniles—aged 15, 3, and 1—were found living in the home with Jones. The drugs were easily accessible to the children, which has led to charges of child endangerment.
Jones now faces multiple charges, including cocaine possession, possession and distribution of a hazardous drug, tampering with evidence, second-degree resisting arrest, and possession of money while in possession of drugs. His bond is set at 10% of $500,000, and his court hearing is scheduled for March 25.
