In a major drug bust at Jogendranagar Railway Station, Agartala, the police arrested two inter-state drug peddlers, Upesh Kumar and Khushbu Devi, on Tuesday morning after they attempted to escape by boarding a long-distance train.
Based on intelligence information, a team of plainclothes police officers was deployed at the railway station. They noticed a suspicious couple preparing to board the train, prompting the officers to detain them for questioning. Upon searching their belongings, the police found three bags containing eight packets of dry Ganja, weighing a total of 36 kilograms, along with two mobile phones and Rs. 3000 in cash.
Upesh Kumar and Khushbu Devi, both from Bihar, are reportedly active members of an inter-state drug trafficking network, involved in transporting Ganja from Tripura to Bihar.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 has been filed against the two accused, and they will be produced before a local court, where police will seek remand for further investigation. During the interrogation, the police hope to uncover more details about the drug network and identify other possible associates involved in trafficking.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and protect the community from the devastating effects of illegal drugs.
