JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — A nurse in Johnson City has been charged with attempted credit card fraud and identity theft after allegedly using a hospital patient’s debit card for unauthorized purchases.
According to an affidavit obtained by News Channel 11, the patient reported to the Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) that their debit card had been fraudulently used on January 20 and 21. The total amount charged was $1,086, with transactions made at American Eagle, DoorDash, Zara, and Uber.
The investigation revealed that the name associated with the transactions was Charlotte Nangca, a nurse employed at Johnson City Medical Center at the time. The JCPD reportedly obtained a written confession from Nangca, leading to her charges of attempted fraudulent use of a debit/credit card and identity theft.
A warrant for her arrest was issued on January 23, and Nangca was taken into custody by the JCPD on Tuesday. Her bond was set at $2,500.
Nangca’s alleged theft adds to the growing concern over healthcare professionals abusing their positions of trust for personal gain.
