Mishawaka Man Faces Multiple Charges After Hotel Domestic Dispute Leads to Stabbing

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) – A Mishawaka man has been arrested and is facing several charges after a domestic altercation at a hotel resulted in him being stabbed.

24-year-old DiCaprio Washington has been charged with domestic battery causing serious bodily injury, strangulation, intimidation, and two counts of domestic battery.

Officers responded to a call from hotel staff around 2:30 a.m. on Friday at the Home2 Suites, located on 211 E. Day Road, reporting that Washington had been stabbed during a domestic dispute.

According to charging documents, a young child opened the door to their hotel room and told officers that her mother was hurt. Both Washington and a 21-year-old woman were detained by police after they explained that they had gotten into a verbal argument.

Investigators noted that the woman appeared frightened and mouthed the word “help” to one of the officers. After being separated from Washington, she reportedly told officers that he had physically assaulted and strangled her, and that she stabbed him in self-defense, fearing he intended to kill her.

Washington, in his statement, claimed that the couple had argued and wrestled. He admitted to placing his hands around her neck and holding her against the wall but denied that she had any breathing difficulties. He also stated that he got on top of her and choked her, but only after she allegedly strangled him.

Both Washington and the woman were taken to the hospital, with Washington later transported to the St. Joseph County Jail.

Prosecutors have confirmed that Washington will be arraigned in court on Monday.
