On Tuesday, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) seized a massive 500kg of Tramadol from an industrial unit in Dholka, Ahmedabad district, as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal drug trafficking.

Earlier on January 24, Gujarat ATS had raided Greenlife Industries in Neja village, Khambhat taluka of Anand district, following a tip-off. The raid resulted in the seizure of 107kg of Alprazolam, worth an estimated Rs 107 crore, and Rs30 lakh in cash. Six suspects were arrested, and a case was filed against them.

During further interrogation, one of the arrested suspects, Ranjit Dabhi, provided information that led to the discovery of the 500kg of Tramadol, hidden in Godown No. 54 at Devam Industries Estate in Dholka. The ATS team raided the location and seized the drugs, valued at approximately Rs 40 crore. In addition to the Tramadol, authorities also recovered 49,800 packing boxes and six packaging foil rolls.

Tramadol, though intended for pain relief, is strictly regulated due to its potential for misuse as a psychotropic drug. Its unauthorized production or sale is considered an offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the drug.

After the significant drug seizure, Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay visited the Gujarat ATS office in Chharodi to commend the team involved in the successful operation.
