Kerala Police have arrested Sulapa Mishra Chatterjee, a 54-year-old school teacher from West Bengal, in connection with a major cyber fraud case. The fraud led to the loss of over Rs 1 crore by a company based in Kochi’s Infopark last year.

Sulapa, a teacher at a government girls’ high school in Jhalda Village, Purulia district, was apprehended after an investigation revealed that her bank accounts and debit cards were used to withdraw the funds. The scam took place in October when a fraudster posing as a supplier officer tricked the company into transferring Rs 1.05 crore.

Infopark Police uncovered the link between the stolen funds and Sulapa’s financial accounts after an in-depth investigation. A special team was dispatched to Jhalda, where they arrested Sulapa with the help of West Bengal police, despite resistance from local residents.

During questioning, Sulapa admitted that she had befriended a person on Facebook who posed as a popular singer. Over several months, the fraudster manipulated her into handing over her bank details, debit cards, and SIM cards, which were then used for the fraudulent transaction.

Sulapa was produced before a West Bengal court and later transferred to Kochi after a transit warrant was issued. She has been remanded in judicial custody, while the investigation continues to track down the individual who exploited her personal information.
