Husband Giovanni Rivera Torres Arrested for Child Neglect

by Sophia Bennett

Polk County, FL – 33-year-old Stephanie Niccole Hanley of Davenport was arrested recently by Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers after driving a stolen vehicle with a child and drugs inside.

During a routine traffic stop on Ernie Caldwell Boulevard, troopers noticed a grey Chrysler Pacifica with New York plates, which had been reported stolen. Hanley, who was driving the vehicle, revealed that she was using the car to take her son to school. However, she did not have a valid driver’s license.

Upon searching the vehicle, troopers discovered a black backpack containing several controlled prescription medications in a plastic bag, as well as methamphetamine. Hanley was charged with burglary to an unoccupied conveyance, grand theft of a motor vehicle, possession of controlled substances without a prescription, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and driving without a license.

As Hanley was being arrested, her husband, 36-year-old Giovanne Junior Rivera Torres of Orlando, arrived in a grey Hyundai. Upon inspection, the Florida tag on the vehicle was found not to be assigned to that car. When asked about his delay, Rivera Torres told troopers he had left Hanley’s four-year-old daughter unattended at home.

Troopers responded to the residence and found the child alone for over an hour. Rivera Torres was then arrested for child neglect without great bodily harm.

Both Hanley and Rivera Torres were taken to Polk County Jail without further incident.
