Keil Smith Macleod, 42, from Maine, was arrested in Plymouth on Thursday afternoon after attempting to make fraudulent withdrawals at Webster Bank on North Riverside Avenue. Bank employees alerted police when they caught Macleod trying to use fake identification cards to access funds.
The Arrest and Fraudulent Activity
Officers responded to the scene at around 3:30 p.m., where they found Macleod attempting to flee. Upon his arrest, police discovered multiple fake IDs and narcotics on his person. Macleod had provided several false names, making it difficult for authorities to identify him initially. However, through his fingerprints, investigators confirmed his identity and found that he had an active warrant from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department in Maine.
Previous Fraud Attempts and Charges
Further investigation revealed that Macleod had previously attempted to defraud other Webster Bank branches throughout Connecticut. He now faces charges of identity theft, providing false statements, and possession of narcotics.
Macleod was held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in March 2025.
