William Jiles Arrested for Murder After Columbia Shooting

29-year-old William Jiles charged in fatal Colony Apartments shooting

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — William Jiles, 29, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection to a shooting that occurred Tuesday night at the Colony Apartments in Columbia.

Authorities say that just before 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1600-1700 block of Bailey Street after receiving multiple ShotSpotter alerts. As officers responded, the call was updated to indicate that a shooting had taken place.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim with a gunshot wound to his upper body. During the investigation, officers were informed that a second victim had been taken to a local hospital with gunshot injuries.

Following their investigation, law enforcement officials identified William Jiles as the suspect in the shooting. Jiles is accused of confronting the victim and shooting him during a violent confrontation.

EMS pronounced the first victim dead at the scene. Jiles was arrested and faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
