MERIDIAN, Idaho (CBS2) — A 26-year-old man, Erik Brigham, was arrested after an altercation with a Meridian Police officer on Friday night.
Officers were called to a domestic disturbance where a female victim reported that an intoxicated man was trying to break into her home. Upon arrival, police encountered Brigham, who was visibly intoxicated and had reportedly damaged the victim’s video doorbell.
Brigham, who has a criminal history of resisting and obstructing officers, resisted arrest and fought with the responding officer. The situation escalated when Brigham attempted to grab the officer’s weapon, successfully disabling part of the security mechanism on the officer’s holster.
To subdue Brigham, the officer used a carotid control hold, rendering him momentarily unconscious. Brigham was taken into custody without serious injury to either him or the officer involved.
Brigham now faces felony charges for battery on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor charges for resisting and obstructing an officer. This arrest comes a year after another incident involving Brigham, when he was found intoxicated in the street and made violent threats.
