James Dwyer Wanted for Home Renovation Fraud in St. John’s

64-Year-Old Man Accused of Taking Deposits for Unfinished Work

by Sophia Bennett

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has issued an arrest warrant for 64-year-old James Dwyer from St. John’s. Dwyer is suspected of scamming people by soliciting home renovation and driveway repair services, taking cash deposits but failing to complete the work.

Police have received multiple complaints from victims who paid in advance for services that were never provided. Dwyer has a history of being arrested for similar offenses.

Authorities are advising homeowners to be cautious when approached by contractors offering unsolicited services. It is recommended to always verify the credentials of any contractor and never pay upfront for work that has not yet begun.

Anyone with information on Dwyer’s whereabouts is urged to contact the RNC at 709-729-8000. To remain anonymous, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
