The Naharlagun Police have arrested five drug peddlers, including a woman, and recovered 11 grams of suspected heroin from their possession in an operation conducted on Sunday. The team acted on a tip-off about a youth involved in the sale of contraband drugs in Naharlagun’s A-Sector area.

Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo formed a special team, including SDPO Paul Jerang, Inspector Krishnendu Dev, and other officers, to carry out a raid at the suspected location. The operation led to the arrest of Md Mijanur Rahman alias Zakir (22), from No. 2 Dharmapur village, Lakhimpur (Assam), and Md Moinul Haque (23), from Balijaan village, Bihpuria (Assam). During a personal search, 3.5 grams of suspected drugs were found with Mijanur. A subsequent raid at Moinul’s meat shop in A-Sector led to the recovery of 51 empty drug vials.

During questioning, the arrested individuals revealed that they had bought the drugs from a woman in Naharlagun, who was still involved in selling heroin. Acting on this information, a team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev and EAC Khoda Bath located the woman with a 2-year-old child selling drugs.

The woman was identified as Saira Begum (23) from Gohaidoloni village, Bihpuria, and was found with 6 vials of suspected heroin weighing 7.5 grams. She was accompanied by Asadul Islam (20), a man from Nowboicha, Lakhimpur. The baby was revealed to be her niece, whom she used to disguise her illegal activities in the market.

Further investigation revealed the identity of the main drug supplier as Nurul Haque (25), a resident of Sonapur, Bangalmara, who was found operating in the Itanagar Capital Region. Acting on technical and human intelligence, the police arrested Nurul Haque from the Pachin river bank.

The operation led to the seizure of 11 grams of suspected heroin and 51 empty vials, with the five arrested suspects facing charges under the NDPS Act.
