Chicago Man Arrested and Charged with First-Degree Murder in Deadly Southwest Side Shooting

Trevon Smith, 18, Faces Murder Charge After Fatal Shooting in Back of the Yards Neighborhood

CHICAGO — Trevon Smith, an 18-year-old man from Chicago, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following a deadly shooting in the city’s Southwest Side, authorities said. The shooting occurred on Thursday evening in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Smith was apprehended at 6:10 p.m. in the 4800 block of S. Seeley Avenue after being identified as the suspect in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old woman in the 2000 block of W. 47th Street. Police say Smith shot and killed the woman shortly before his arrest.

Smith is facing one felony count of first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing on January 19.

The incident is under investigation by the Chicago Police Department.
