Fayetteville Officer Brian Gerber Arrested for Fraud

Sergeant faces 12 felony counts in fraud scheme

by Sophia Bennett

A Fayetteville police officer, Sergeant Brian Gerber, has been arrested on multiple fraud charges. The Fayetteville Police Department announced his arrest at 11:30 a.m., followed by a news conference led by Chief Kemberle Braden at 1 p.m., where details of the case were shared.

Gerber faces 12 felony counts of fraud for allegedly falsifying his attendance at a security guard job. Investigators claim he fraudulently earned approximately $20,000 by misrepresenting his work hours. In one instance, he reportedly clocked in for just six minutes but was compensated for over 20 hours of work.

“The Fayetteville Police Department is willing and able to hold itself accountable when necessary,” Chief Braden stated.

The investigation into Gerber began when an audit revealed discrepancies in his GPS data while he was employed as a security officer at the AMC theater located at the Market Fair Mall on Skibo Road.

Braden emphasized the importance of ethical behavior within the department, stating, “There are certain things that the average person can probably do and get away with that we can’t allow our police officers to do.”

Gerber had been with the Fayetteville Police Department since 2017 and worked in the patrol division. Following his arrest, he is no longer employed by the department. This incident marks the third officer arrest since Braden assumed the role of police chief in 2023. In October, Officer Izreal Gear-Johnson, 23, was arrested for involvement in illegal narcotics activity, and in November, Officer Tamyra Billings-Giles, 31, faced various charges.
