7 Drug Peddlers Arrested in Srinagar, Budgam, and Shopian with Contraband

Police Intensify Efforts to Combat Drug Menace, Recover Substantial Contraband

In its ongoing fight against drug abuse, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested seven drug peddlers from Srinagar, Budgam, and Shopian districts and seized large quantities of contraband substances, including charas and banned drugs.

In Srinagar, a team from Police Station Khanyar, while conducting routine patrols in the Bishambarnagar area, stopped two suspicious individuals. After a thorough search, they recovered a substantial amount of contraband. The arrested individuals were identified as Imran Ahmad Ganie and Abid Hamid Nanda, both residents of Anantnag.

Additionally, in the Nishat area, during a naka checking at Sheikh Mohalla Brein, Umar Farooq Sheikh, a local resident, was arrested for possessing 50 grams of charas-like substance.

In Budgam, the Police Station Beerwah team intercepted three individuals at a checkpoint near Indian Gas Agency in Lolipora village. The accused, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Rouf Ahmad Bhat, and Mukhtar Ahmad Najar, were found in possession of 49 grams of charas-like sticks, 368 grams of charas powder, 112 tablets of banned drugs, Rs2520 in cash, and two mobile phones.

Further south, in Shopian, a joint operation by police and CRPF (14Bn) in Daramdoora Keegam village resulted in the recovery of 16.7 kg of charas hidden in two nylon bags at the residence of Imtiyaz Ahmad Hurra.

All the arrested individuals have been booked under relevant laws, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any drug-related activities by contacting their nearest police station or calling 112. Police remain committed to taking strong action against drug traffickers to rid society of this menace.
