CHICO, Calif. — A notorious gang member in Chico was sentenced to over 31 years in state prison for his role in a 2021 shooting at a Mobil gas station that left one person with serious injuries.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey confirmed that 34-year-old Raul Daniel Linarez-Rodriguez was sentenced on Tuesday after being convicted in October of multiple charges. The charges included assault with a deadly weapon, personal use of a firearm, causing great bodily injury, reckless discharge of a firearm, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Linarez-Rodriguez was also convicted for possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.
The jury found that Linarez-Rodriguez had previously been convicted of a gang-related shooting in 2005, which led to a 14-year prison sentence. This prior conviction played a role in the sentencing.
On October 27, 2021, Linarez-Rodriguez opened fire at a Mobil gas station near Longfellow Avenue and E. First Avenue in Chico, injuring an employee. Following the conviction, Linarez-Rodriguez was sentenced to 31 years and 4 months in state prison for his crimes.
