Wappinger, NY — Alvis J. Lewis Jr., a 54-year-old man from Wappingers Falls, has been arrested by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force on charges related to the distribution of narcotics and dangerous drugs in the Wappinger and Poughkeepsie areas.

The arrest followed a months-long investigation, which began after community members provided tips about possible drug activity in the area. Lewis, who was working as a counselor at a drug rehabilitation center in Carmel, New York, was identified as a suspect for allegedly selling drugs while employed at the facility.

During the investigation, agents with the Drug Task Force made multiple controlled purchases of crack cocaine from Lewis. Surveillance confirmed that he worked overnight shifts at the rehab center, providing further evidence of his involvement in illegal drug sales.

On January 14, 2025, Drug Task Force agents, with the help of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Service Unit, apprehended Lewis in the Town of Fishkill. A search warrant executed at his residence resulted in the seizure of crack cocaine, which was packaged for sale.

Lewis now faces charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, as well as criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned in the Village of Wappingers Falls Court and is currently being held at the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center without bail. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
