Rome, Ga. — Mibzar Maquito Perez, 25, of Rome, was arrested this week after a high-speed chase that followed a police discovery of him passed out behind the wheel of his car.
According to reports, officers found Perez unresponsive in his vehicle, but when they attempted to wake him, he sped away, triggering a pursuit. During the chase, Perez reportedly ran multiple stop signs and drove on the wrong side of the road in an effort to evade capture.
The pursuit ultimately ended after Perez was stopped, and police discovered a number of empty alcohol bottles and 866 grams of suspected fentanyl inside his car.
The incident occurred on Park and Cave Spring Roads, where Perez was apprehended. He faces a series of charges, including:
Drug trafficking
Possession of a controlled substance
Driving on a suspended license
Driving on the wrong side of the road
DUI (Driving Under the Influence)
Open container
Reckless driving
Attempting to elude police
Laying drag
Probation violation
Perez is currently in custody, facing multiple charges related to the incident.
