On January 15, Panambur police, acting on reliable information, arrested a man for possessing narcotics and a dangerous weapon near the NMPT old truck yard in Panambur.
Following a tip-off about a person carrying drugs and a sword along the road leading to Pump House, Panambur PSI Shrikhala KT and her team conducted a raid around 3 pm. The operation, which was supervised by Mangaluru City North ACP Srikant K and Panambur Inspector Saleem Abbas, led to the arrest of Umar Farooq (32), also known as Mutton Farooq, a resident of Kasaba Bendre in Mangaluru.
During the operation, the police seized 1.72 grams of methamphetamine worth Rs 4,000 and a sword from Farooq. He was charged under the NDPS Act, specifically sections 8(C) and 22(a) of 1985, along with sections 4 and 25(1-B)(b) of the Indian Arms Act.
Umar Farooq is reportedly involved in over nine criminal cases across multiple police stations in Mangaluru, including Panambur, Kankanady Town, Ullal, Mangaluru South and East, as well as locations in Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts. Warrants were pending against him at the Uppinangady and Kankanady Town stations, where he had been evading arrest.
The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal IPS, DCP Law and Order Siddharth Goel IPS, and DCP Crime and Traffic Ravishankar. The police team included ACP Srikant K, Inspector Saleem Abbas, PSIs Shrikhala KT and Gyanashekar, along with crime division personnel such as HCs Premananda, Syed Intiyaz, James, and constables Rakesh L M, Fakirsh, Basavaraj Gurikar, and Sharanappa Gollar.
Further investigations are currently underway.
