by Ananya Mehta

A tragic incident unfolded in Guwahati’s Kahilipara locality on Tuesday night when 29-year-old Akash Choudhury was brutally murdered by four of his friends following a drinking session. The event took place at around 8:45 PM, and despite being rushed to Hayat Hospital, Akash was declared dead at 9:15 PM.

Akash, a night-time Rapido rider, had been out drinking with his friends at a local shop near the Kahilipara Power House. What started as a casual gathering soon turned violent, leading to a brutal altercation. Reports indicate that Akash was not only physically attacked but also allegedly thrown in front of an oncoming vehicle, worsening his injuries.

One of the accused, Jiyarul Ali, rushed Akash to Hayat Hospital in an auto rickshaw, but the victim succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

The four accused—Banjit Rajbongshi (27), Jiyarul Ali (28), Debabrat Mallik (27), and Tarun Buragohain (25)—have been arrested. Jiyarul Ali, one of the suspects, stated that after drinking, Akash became highly intoxicated and the situation escalated when he was asked to leave the upper level of the shop. However, the full details of how the altercation led to such a tragic outcome are still under investigation.

The police are continuing their investigation, and the case has drawn attention to the dangers of alcohol-fueled violence among friends.
