Tamuning, Guam – A man and woman were arrested Tuesday following a search warrant executed by the Guam Police Department and federal task force officers at a Tamuning apartment. The authorities suspected the units were involved in the unlawful distribution of methamphetamine, which led to the arrest of 34-year-old Joseph John Sablan and 31-year-old Kathleen Christina Walerski.
The search warrant was executed at three units of an apartment building, where Sablan and Walerski were identified as occupants of one unit. Upon entering, officers discovered a metal ammunition can containing ten baggies of suspected methamphetamine, according to the magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam.
The complaint also stated that the metal can held a wallet with cash and identifying documents belonging to Sablan. The total weight of the methamphetamine baggies was 12.17 grams, with individual bag weights ranging from 0.48 to 1.27 grams. Officers also found a digital scale in the apartment, further indicating possible drug distribution activities.
In addition, Walerski reportedly admitted that a bag containing methamphetamine, along with a straw, was hers. She also confessed to owning a box with more methamphetamine. Sablan allegedly claimed that the meth was for personal use but admitted to giving some to friends. He denied selling it.
However, Walerski contradicted her earlier statement, admitting that she knew about Sablan’s meth distribution activities. When confronted with further evidence, she stated she did what was necessary to “take care of herself and her children.”
During the investigation, it was noted that people who did not reside at the apartment would frequently visit for only a short period of time. This behavior suggested the apartment was being used for drug trafficking. Authorities later stopped a vehicle on December 3 that had visited Sablan and Walerski’s apartment, and the passenger was found with methamphetamine, admitting to purchasing it from the couple.
Both Sablan and Walerski were charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute as first-degree felonies and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance as third-degree felonies.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to monitor the activities of those involved.
