A routine traffic stop on December 18, 2023, led to the arrest of Kevin Franklin Michael, 55, of Booneville, after authorities discovered an illegal deer and firearms in his possession.

The stop occurred on Highway 45, where Deputy Kolby Knight initiated the traffic stop. Upon investigation, Knight found the illegal deer and contacted Fish and Game Officers Larry Rowan and Tim Gholson for assistance. This led to Michael being charged with misdemeanor offenses related to the illegal deer and a charge of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

The investigation took a significant turn the following day, December 19, when Investigator Aaron Stolz executed a search warrant at Michael’s residence. Authorities seized five additional firearms and about 30 pounds of marijuana, which is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance.

As a result, Michael now faces multiple charges, including Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Trafficking of a Controlled Substance Enhanced with a Firearm, and Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance. Given his status as a habitual offender, the charges against him carry additional penalties.

Justice Court Judge Ray Hall set Michael’s bond at $200,000. The case will be presented to the Prentiss County Grand Jury, with Investigator Stolz and North Mississippi Narcotics Investigator Grady Smith leading the investigation.

Authorities praised the teamwork involved in the case, which highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activity in the region and protect public safety.
