The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested two individuals in connection with a significant scholarship scam, where funds intended for minority students were misappropriated. The accused, Mohammad Aslam Ali, a manager and principal of several educational institutions, and Furqan Alani, a vice-principal, are believed to have siphoned off a total of Rs 21.37 lakh.

The scam, which was uncovered between 2018 and 2019, dates back to fraudulent activities between 2009 and 2011. Madrasas, schools, and other educational institutions in the region are said to have been involved in the embezzlement. The EOW took over the investigation from the Civil Lines police station due to the complex nature of the case, which involved numerous districts across Uttar Pradesh.

The arrested individuals are accused of diverting funds from various educational establishments, including Mohammadia Primary School, Madrasa MAMS, and Ekta Public School, all under Aslam Ali’s management. Earlier, authorities had already detained a principal and a female operator in connection with the scam.

Both Aslam Ali and Alani have been sent to jail, while the EOW continues to investigate and apprehend other individuals involved in the massive financial fraud affecting students’ education.
