JACKSON, Miss. – William Clark, the former Secretary/Treasurer of the Sardis Fire Department, was arrested today by Special Agents from the Mississippi State Auditor’s office. Clark is accused of submitting fraudulent invoices to the City of Sardis, inflating emergency response numbers in order to unlawfully receive payments.
State Auditor Shad White expressed his commitment to tackling the misuse of taxpayer dollars, stating, “We will continue to hold the line on misuse of your tax dollars, big or small.” White also noted that under his leadership, the Auditor’s office has recovered more money in the last six years than ever before in the office’s history.
If convicted, Clark faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $5,000. All individuals arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
