by Sophia Bennett

A Simpsonville woman, Bryia Lattimore Scott, was arrested Thursday on charges of identity fraud after allegedly using a fake name to secure employment at Laurens County School District 55.

Scott, who worked at Waterloo Elementary School under the name Viola Church, was employed by Aya Healthcare, a company that provides travel nurses to districts across the country. The school district reported the alleged fraud to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, leading to an investigation.

The sheriff’s office confirmed Scott is facing charges for identity fraud to unlawfully obtain employment.

In response to the situation, the school district sent out a letter to parents and guardians of students who may have been impacted by Scott’s employment. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
