Dellan Charles Found Guilty of Fatal Stabbing of Sean O’Neill
A man has been convicted for the murder of 30-year-old Sean O’Neill in west London after a thorough investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
The Conviction and Arrest
Dellan Charles, aged 23, with no fixed address, was found guilty on December 17 after a trial at Kingston Crown Court. He was charged with the murder of Sean O’Neill and related offences.
The investigation began after police launched a public appeal on March 26, 2023, to locate Charles. Within a day, officers received crucial information that led them to an address in Coventry, where they arrested Charles the following day.
Detective’s Statement
Detective Inspector Kevin Martin from Specialist Crime South praised Sean’s family for their strength throughout the investigation and trial, stating: “Sean found himself in the middle of a violent dispute between two groups. He was targeted by the defendant while trying to escape, posing no threat. His family has shown immense dignity and resilience throughout the lengthy investigation and trial.”
Sean’s Family’s Tribute
In a statement, Sean’s family expressed their grief:
“It has been an incredibly difficult 19 months since Sean was taken from us. While today’s verdict won’t bring Sean back, we are grateful that justice has been served. Sean will always be remembered for his big heart, bright smile, and his joyful personality. We miss him every day.”
Details of the Crime
On the evening of May 18, 2023, police responded to reports of a man suffering from injuries in Reynolds Road, Hayes. Upon arrival, they found Sean O’Neill with stab wounds. Despite efforts from emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The trial revealed that Charles chased and stabbed Sean after a violent altercation between two groups. Sean, who had become separated from his friends, was attacked as he tried to flee. A post-mortem confirmed that the cause of death was sharp force trauma to the chest and abdomen.
Second Conviction
Another man, Shakil McCrea, 27, of Sinclair Road, W14, was convicted of possessing a knife. McCrea was arrested on May 23, 2023, and charged the following day. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 18, 2023.
Sentencing
Dellan Charles will be sentenced on March 17, 2025, for his role in the murder.
