The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has successfully busted a drug cartel and arrested a 27-year-old Afghan national, Mohammad Yasin, for allegedly carrying 460 grams of heroin. The arrest took place on Friday in Ahmedabad, marking a significant development in the state’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking.

According to ATS officials, Mohammad Yasin had arrived in India on a medical visa in 2017. However, after his visa expired two years ago, Yasin continued to stay illegally in Greater Noida, where he worked as a translator for Afghan citizens. He had reportedly applied to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for refugee status in an attempt to remain in the country legally.

Yasin’s illegal activities included trafficking in heroin, which was seized during his arrest. Authorities are now investigating his potential connections to larger drug networks and whether he was acting alone or as part of a broader operation.

This arrest adds to Gujarat’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, with law enforcement agencies continuously working to disrupt the flow of narcotics into the state and the country. Further investigations are underway to trace the origin of the heroin and identify any additional individuals involved in the cartel.
