The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai has successfully cracked an interstate drug trafficking operation, seizing 3,000 bottles of Codeine Based Cough Syrup (CBCS) worth Rs15 lakh. The operation led to the arrest of three traffickers—S R Ahmed, M Aslam, and Y Khan—who were intercepted in Ulhasnagar, Thane.
According to NCB sources, the drugs were sourced from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and trafficked through various transport services, mis-declaring the goods being transported to avoid detection. The traffickers had planned to distribute the illegal syrup in different parts of Mumbai.
The NCB’s investigation is continuing, with efforts focused on identifying the supplier in Lucknow and uncovering further links to the cartel. The arrested individuals are believed to have been involved in drug trafficking for a long period, with prior criminal backgrounds.
The NCB Mumbai, after receiving active intelligence, set up surveillance in the area of Ulhasnagar, where the traffickers were spotted receiving the consignment. The bottles of CBCS, a controlled substance often misused for its psychoactive effects, were seized, marking a major victory in the fight against narcotic abuse in Mumbai.
This seizure is a part of the NCB’s ongoing efforts to combat the illegal trafficking and misuse of drugs in Maharashtra and other regions.
