ATLANTA, Ga. — JaQuan Brooks, 25, and Davonte Fore, 26, were sentenced in connection with the 2021 fatal shooting of transgender woman Skyler Gilmore, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s office. The two men were convicted of the crime in October 2024.
The investigation revealed that Gilmore, a victim of survival sex, was murdered after it was discovered she had been involved with another member of a local gang. Brooks and Fore, both identified as gang members, were ordered by the gang to carry out the murder.
Brooks was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, plus five years of probation. Fore, who was not present for the sentencing, was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole and an additional 15 years in confinement. Fore, arrested in November 2022, was released on bond in February 2024, despite opposition from the state. He has been missing since October 1 and is now considered a fugitive.
