Tampa Contractor Jordan Hidalgo Arrested for Contractor Fraud
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Jordan Hidalgo, the owner of the now-defunct Modern Pools, was arrested on Friday and charged with two felonies related to contractor fraud. The charges stem from unfinished pool projects left by his company, Modern Pools, which is currently closed.
Hidalgo has been the central figure in a Better Call Behnken investigation, which uncovered multiple complaints about unfinished pools across various counties. In addition to his role in Modern Pools, Hidalgo briefly partnered with Olympus Pools, which also shut down amidst numerous complaints about incomplete pool installations.
Last September, following a state investigation into over 50 complaints regarding his businesses, Hidalgo voluntarily surrendered nine licenses associated with several pool companies he ran. The surrendered licenses belonged to businesses including Modern Pools, West Bay Pools, Staycation Pools & Spas, and others.
The recent charges are connected to two separate cases involving Modern Pools, where customers allege they paid in full for pool installations that were never completed. In one case, nearly $29,000 worth of work, including a screen enclosure and Wi-Fi controller, was never provided. In another, $17,000 worth of travertine decking and window alarms went uninstalled.
These charges specifically concern Modern Pools, but Hidalgo’s past companies have faced additional scrutiny. He held two licenses for two companies and continues to be under investigation by law enforcement for other potential criminal activities in multiple jurisdictions.
