A 26-year-old man, Arun Sharma, was arrested from Gurugram railway station on Friday night for allegedly killing his wife, Kajal Sharma (23), by injecting her with a drug after she refused to give him money, police said.
According to investigators, Arun, a resident of Loni, Ghaziabad, and a former radiology technician, confessed that he injected Kajal, ostensibly to render her unconscious so he could steal cash. Kajal, from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, had worked as a nurse at the same hospital, and the couple had known each other for two years before marrying in November.
Kuldeep Singh, SHO of Sector 10 police station, said Arun was a drug addict. He forcibly injected Kajal in her left hand on Wednesday morning following an argument over money, which resulted in her death within minutes.
Police revealed that the couple had frequent disputes after Arun lost his job, with arguments intensifying earlier this month when Kajal moved in with her parents and Arun followed. On Tuesday night, the couple fought over Arun’s demand for money to buy drugs.
During the investigation, police recovered a syringe, needle, and ampule of anesthetic drug from Kajal’s bathroom. Autopsy reports confirmed an intravenous injection mark on her left hand, with the drug’s side effects leading to her death.
A case of dowry death was registered against Arun on Thursday, in line with provisions for unnatural deaths of women within seven years of marriage. Arun was produced before the court on Saturday and sent to three-day police remand for interrogation to trace the source of the drug used.
