Dayton James Webber, 27, a professional cornhole player and quadruple amputee, has been arrested in Virginia after the fatal shooting of Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, in Charles County, Maryland.
The shooting occurred on Sunday near La Plata Road and Radio Station Road in La Plata, Maryland. Witnesses told police that Webber, the driver, allegedly shot Wells, the front-seat passenger, during an argument. The witnesses refused to assist Webber and left the scene, after which Wells’ body was discovered about two hours later in a yard in Charlotte Hall, roughly 15 miles away.
Authorities obtained an arrest warrant, tracked Webber’s vehicle to Charlottesville, Virginia, and located him at a nearby hospital seeking medical treatment. He was arrested as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition to Maryland, where he will face charges including first-degree murder and second-degree murder.
Webber, featured by ESPN in 2023, competed in the American Cornhole League World Championships in 2021. His family revealed he became a quadruple amputee after contracting a bacterial infection that led to sepsis as an infant.
The American Cornhole League confirmed awareness of the arrest and stated it is a serious matter. They noted that Webber has not participated in league events since late 2024 and emphasized respect for the ongoing judicial process.
