SALIMA, Malawi — Police in Salima have arrested eight people, including two women, during a district-wide operation aimed at curbing criminal activity.
According to Rebecca Ndiwate, public relations officer for the Malawi Police Service in Salima, the arrests occurred on March 7, 2026, during a simultaneous operation focused on restoring order in the area.
Six suspects — Noah Ndabwelera (26), Muhammad Kasim (20), Kesten Katula (19), Ekilon Fodya (36), Edward Kamowa (48), and Christopher John (39) — were apprehended at Mikute in Sengabay for possession of 551 twists of loose cannabis sativa without a permit.
In a separate incident, Victoria Nazombe and Tiyamike Aspolo were arrested at Mwambi Village under Traditional Authority Maganga for allegedly participating in illegal gambling activities.
Ndiwate said the suspects will soon appear in court to face charges related to their offences. She also assured residents that the police will continue operations to maintain law and order and strengthen security in the district.
