A South Carolina woman, Jacosha Simpson, is facing multiple felony charges following a tragic crash that claimed the life of her 8-year-old daughter and left several others injured in Spartanburg County.
Simpson, 30, was arrested on Monday and later appeared in court, where she was granted two bonds totaling $26,000. Authorities have charged her with felony DUI resulting in death, felony DUI causing great bodily injury, and child endangerment.
According to investigators, the crash occurred শনিবার night just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of Fosters Grove Road and Sandy Ford Road in Cherokee Springs. Officials say Simpson was driving eastbound when she failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway.
The car reportedly veered into a field, struck multiple trees, and crashed into an embankment. Prosecutors stated in court that the vehicle even became airborne before landing in a creek bed.
The collision resulted in the death of Simpson’s young daughter, Jaylin Simpson. A man identified as Marlin Brown suffered severe injuries, including the loss of an arm, while three other children between the ages of 6 and 9 sustained minor injuries.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
Court records show Simpson has a history of traffic violations, primarily for speeding, dating back more than a decade. She also has a pending domestic violence charge from 2025.
During the bond hearing, emotional statements were shared by both the victim’s and the defendant’s families. Marlin Brown’s mother described the devastating impact of the crash and her fear of losing another child.
Despite the tragedy, several of Simpson’s family members asked the court for leniency, emphasizing that the incident was not intentional and expressing their desire for her to be able to attend her daughter’s funeral.
Loved ones described Jaylin as a joyful and loving child whose presence lit up every room. The family is now working to raise funds for her funeral.
Simpson is expected to appear in court again in May. As part of her release conditions, she will be monitored for alcohol use and driving.
