A domestic dispute turned fatal in Malwani, Mumbai, after a man allegedly attacked his wife with a kitchen knife, killing her and injuring two relatives who tried to intervene.
The incident occurred on March 15 around 10:30 pm at Malwani Gate No. 7, New Collector Compound, Malad West.
The accused has been identified as Mohd Sabir Ansari (44). Police said he arrived at his wife’s parental home and began arguing with family members. When his wife, Afsana Ansari, refused to return home and reportedly criticized him for not providing household money, the altercation escalated.
In a fit of rage, Ansari allegedly stabbed his wife. Her brother, Faim Ahmed Abdul Rahim Ansari (40), and niece, Sabina, tried to intervene but were also attacked, sustaining injuries to the back and knee.
Relatives and neighbors rushed the injured to Shatabdi Hospital, where Afsana was declared dead.
Police from Malwani Police Station registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder, attempted murder, assault, and criminal intimidation, along with provisions under the Maharashtra Police Act.
Senior Police Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar confirmed that the accused is in police custody, and further investigation into the circumstances of the attack is ongoing.
