MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. — A 48-year-old woman has been charged with identity theft after allegedly posting a man’s arrest warrant containing personal information on Facebook.
Emilee Berger reportedly shared a copy of the warrant in a social media group, revealing sensitive details including the man’s Social Security number, date of birth, driver’s license number, and full name. The victim confirmed he did not give permission for his information to be published.
Berger told detectives she attempted to redact the information after being notified by another user and reposted the warrant. The following day, she posted again acknowledging that the original version had not been properly redacted.
Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones explained that the line seen through the document was automatically applied when scanned into the court system, but the unredacted copy originated from the Monroe County Clerk of Court’s electronic system. An audit revealed the system was accessed by two individuals during the relevant timeframe, though no employees of the sheriff’s office or clerk’s office were involved.
Because the warrant contained unredacted personal identifying information, detectives concluded a criminal offense had occurred. Berger was arrested, charged with identity theft, and released on a $3,000 bond.
The investigation into how the document was accessed and shared remains ongoing.
