In a significant development related to a Rs4-crore job scam, Chandigarh Police have arrested Manohar Lal, a Junior Engineer (JE) working in the UT horticulture department. Lal is linked to a fraudulent operation where over 400 cleanliness workers were scammed. The main accused in the case, Simal Khairwal, who allegedly ran a fake recruitment company named “Ultimate Manpower Housekeeping,” and his associate Rohit were also arrested on Tuesday.
Since November of last year, Khairwal coerced job seekers into paying between Rs50,000 and Rs1 lakh each for non-existent jobs, amassing several crores in the process. Police investigations revealed that the workers were placed under Lal’s supervision, who was responsible for maintaining parks in the Sector 23 area, including Dhanas and Maloya.
Evidence gathered by the police shows that Lal allowed Khairwal’s workers to perform cleaning duties in parks under his jurisdiction, despite knowing the workers were part of a scam. The police also uncovered call records indicating Lal’s regular contact with Khairwal. It was further revealed that Lal had taken ₹40,000 in cash from Khairwal as part of the fraudulent arrangement.
