Bhubaneswar Police, under the ongoing Cyber Kabach campaign, arrested a cyber fraud agent while he attempted to convert cash at a petrol pump.
The accused, Santosh Nayak, a resident of Khajurapali in Nayagarh district, was caught red-handed while trying to withdraw Rs 50,000 at the Nayapalli petrol pump. Authorities confirmed that Nayak was part of a larger interstate cyber fraud racket, and investigations are ongoing to trace other associates.
During the operation, police also seized a vehicle bearing registration number OD 02 BY 5517, which was allegedly used in the fraud scheme. Investigators revealed that the cybercriminals were converting online scam proceeds into cash through petrol pumps.
Nayak claimed he was only the driver of the vehicle and alleged that the money belonged to his associate, Abhishek, who instructed him to withdraw the cash. Despite his defense, the police relied on evidence and proceeded with the arrest.
Officials emphasized that the Cyber Kabach campaign continues to intensify checks on mule accounts and fraudulent transactions, marking another milestone in Odisha Police’s efforts to curb cybercrime and protect citizens from financial scams.
