Police in South Kashmir arrested five alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in the Bijbehara area, Anantnag district and seized a significant quantity of narcotic substances from their possession.
According to officials from Bijbehara Police, two accused — Javid Ahmad Parray and Jawahar Ahmad Sofi, both residents of Jablipora, Bijbehara — were apprehended during a naka checking operation. Police recovered 240 grams of charas-like powder from them. A case has been registered under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act (FIR No. 54/2026).
In another incident, officers intercepted a load carrier auto (JK13F-3949) driven by Suhail Mushtaq Mir, a resident of Umar Colony, Jahangir Parigam, Pulwama. During the search, police seized 10.340 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance. A case was registered under Sections 8/15 and 29 of the NDPS Act (FIR No. 55/2026).
During a separate naka check, police stopped a Maruti Alto (JK01P-4799) driven by Suhail Ahmad Bhat of Baliyar, Marhama, Bijbehara. Authorities recovered approximately 4.90 kilograms of ganja-like substance from the vehicle. A case under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act (FIR No. 56/2026) was registered.
In another operation, police arrested Abdul Rashid Bhat from Bhatpora, Marhama and seized 3.74 kilograms of charas-like powder. A case under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act (FIR No. 57/2026) was also registered.
Police said further investigations are underway in all the cases to identify other individuals involved in the narcotics network.
