The Ahmedabad Police registered a case against an 18-year-old youth for allegedly selling ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final tickets at inflated prices near the Narendra Modi Stadium, Chandkheda ahead of the India–New Zealand title clash on March 8.
According to the FIR filed by the Local Crime Branch (LCB), the accused, Vansh Hiralkumar Shah, a resident of the Vasna area, Ahmedabad, was apprehended during a late-night raid outside Gate No. 1 of the stadium on March 6.
Police said the operation was conducted following instructions from senior officers to curb black marketing of match tickets around the stadium before the ICC final.
As per the complaint filed by Police Constable Raunakkumar Jayarambhai, attached to LCB Zone-2, the police team was on patrol near Chandkheda Metro Station at around 10:30 pm when they received a tip-off about a man selling tickets at higher-than-official prices.
Acting on the information, officers located Vansh Shah near Gate No. 1. Posing as a customer, an officer requested tickets for the final match. The accused allegedly offered two tickets for Rs22,000—far above the official printed price of Rs2,000 each. When asked for the tickets, he produced them, after which police revealed their identity and detained him.
A search led to the recovery of the two tickets, and the accused was unable to produce any authorisation or permit to sell them. The tickets were seized for further investigation.
Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Gujarat Police Act related to illegal sale of tickets and unauthorised trading in public spaces. Vansh Shah was served a notice and allowed to leave after preliminary action, while the tickets remain in police custody.
