Hyderabad police have arrested Devarakonda Mahesh in connection with the shocking murder of his pregnant ex-wife, Sunitha, which shook the city on Wednesday. Investigators said the crime was meticulously planned weeks in advance.
According to authorities, Mahesh tracked Sunitha’s movements through social media, procured weapons including knives, petrol, and a chainsaw, and traveled to her residence intending to carry out the killing. Sunitha was three months pregnant at the time of the attack.
Police revealed that Mahesh had anticipated the possibility of Sunitha and her current husband locking themselves inside the house. To counter this, he brought a chainsaw to break open doors if necessary. Investigators said he returned from Canada months earlier, stayed in Miyapur, and later moved to Turkayamjal specifically to execute the plan.
On Wednesday afternoon, Mahesh allegedly attacked and killed Sunitha, reportedly motivated by a grudge over their divorce and her remarriage. Sunitha had previously filed a domestic violence case against him, after which her ex-husband’s passport had been seized, preventing him from leaving India for over a year.
Following his arrest on Thursday, Mahesh was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Police continue to probe the full scope of his premeditated actions leading up to the murder.
