Lakadganj Police Probe Rs1.13 Cr School Supply Scam

Businessman Duped by Fake West Bengal Contract

by Ananya Mehta

Lakadganj police have registered a cheating case against two individuals for allegedly duping a businessman of over Rs1.13 crore. The fraud involved a fake promise of a lucrative school uniform and bag supply contract from the West Bengal government.

The complainant, 37-year-old paper trader and notebook manufacturer Niranj Khemka from Wardhaman Nagar, was approached by his friend Sanjay Sharma, who introduced him to Sheikh Hussain and Subhashit Sinha. Sharma claimed that Sinha was a senior West Bengal government official managing such contracts.

Believing the fraudulent claims, Khemka transferred a total of Rs1.13 crore to the account provided by the scammers starting from January 2, 2023, expecting to secure the contract. Police are investigating the case to trace the accused and recover the money.
