Punjab police successfully dismantled a notorious cyber fraud ring after arresting three key members, including the gang’s alleged leader, Aakash Bhargav. The criminals exploited voice-changing software to pose as women on fake social media accounts and target female victims, threatening to release AI-generated explicit videos unless paid.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav confirmed that the operation revealed the gang’s highly sophisticated methods. The perpetrators used fake identities to appear credible and manipulate victims into paying large sums. The case came to light after a father reported that his daughter, while in Canada, was defrauded of Rs 3.10 lakh.
Under the leadership of Amandeep Singh, investigations uncovered that the gang had accumulated nearly Rs 40 lakh. Alongside Bhargav, the arrested accomplices were found in possession of cash, mobile phones, and other digital equipment used for the scams. Authorities urge social media users to remain cautious and contact the cybercrime helpline at 1930 if threatened.
