Bhubaneswar: The Capital Police have arrested Bulu Gouda (40) for allegedly defrauding a man of Rs 14 lakh by promising government jobs for his wife and sister.

The accused was apprehended from the Patrapada area on Tuesday and produced in court. The case, registered as Case No. 169 on March 8, was swiftly investigated, leading to his arrest within two days.

According to police reports, the victim met Gouda in 2024, who falsely claimed he could secure government employment for the complainant’s wife and sister. Trusting these promises, the victim transferred money in instalments:

Rs 9 lakh in cash during meetings in Bapuji Nagar and Master Canteen

Gouda also collected the original educational certificates of the victim’s wife and sister, promising they were required for job processing. After receiving Rs 14 lakh and the certificates, he failed to provide any jobs and demanded more money when confronted.

During interrogation, Gouda confessed to the crime. Police revealed that he has six prior cases registered in various police stations. Authorities are continuing the investigation to uncover additional details and identify any accomplices involved in the scheme.

The Capital Police warned the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals promising government jobs for money to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
